Guanghua School of Management is proud to announce that nine of its professors, along with 107 other faculty members from various fields in Peking University, were named as “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers of 2020” by Elsevier, a globally renowned academic publication group.

Professors Zhou Li-an and Chen Yuyu from the Department of Applied Economics, along with Professor Wang Hansheng from the Department of Business Statistics and Econometrics are recognised for their contributions to “Applied Economics”. Professors Zhou Changhui, Wang Hui and Lu Jiangyong from the Department of Organisation and Strategic Management, Professor Lin Wanchuan from the Department of Applied Economics as well as Professor Jiang Guohua from Department of Accounting were awarded for their contributions to “Business Management”. Rounding up the list, Professor Chen Songxi from Department of Business Statistics and Econometrics was awarded under the category of “Statistics”.

In our history of 36 years, Guanghua School of Management has continuously pursued academic excellence and has persistently strived to produce world-class Chinese academic work, upholding high standards and innovating research methods.

Elsevier’s List of Chinese Most Cited Researchers was determined using data from Scopus, a highly regarded worldwide abstract and citation database. The list aims to credit individuals who are leading the world’s academic advancement through analysing and rating the influence of Chinese scholars. This year marks the list’s 7th rendition since its first publication in 2015, which has attracted attention from media and scholars worldwide.

Many professors from Guanghua School of Management have been named multiple times since the list’s first release. It is also noteworthy that Professors Wang Hansheng and Jiang Guohua have been named on the list for seven consecutive years.

Chen Songxi

Professor Chen Songxi joined Guanghua in May 2008 and is now Co-Chair of the Department of Business Statistics and Econometrics. He also serves as The Founding Director of Center for Statistical Science at Peking University. Chen graduated from Beijing Normal University with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a master's degree in Mathematical Statistics. In 1990 he received a master's degree in Statistics and Operations Research from Victoria University of Wellington. In 1993, he obtained a Ph.D. in Statistics from Australian National University.

His research interests include High Dimensional Data Analysis; Statistics for Environmental Applications and Geophysics Studies; Econometrics; Inference for Stochastic Processes. He currently teaches Advanced Multivariate Analysis, Asymptotic Statistics, and Applied Statistics for the PhD and MBA programs.

Chen Yuyu

Chen Yuyu is currently a Professor of Applied Economics at Guanghua, and the Director of the Institute of Economic Policy at Peking University. In 2014, he won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and was selected as a Distinguished Professor under the Ministry of Education’s Changjiang Scholars Programme in 2016. His research interests include economic development and productivity, human capital and growth, health, and pollution, behavioural economics and labour market, income distribution, regional differences, and others. His research has been published in international academic journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS). He has also won the second prize in the Ministry of Education’s Outstanding Achievement Award of Social Sciences in Colleges and Universities, the Li Yining Research Award, the Outstanding Teaching Award of Peking University, and the Teaching Excellence Award of Guanghua School of Management.

Jiang Guohua

Jiang Guohua is a Professor of Accounting at Guanghua and serves as the Executive Associate Dean of Peking University Graduate School. From 2013 to 2016, he was Director of the Yenching Academy, Peking University, and from 2016 to January 2017, he was Executive Associate Dean and Director of the Yenching Academy, Peking University. Currently he also serves as an independent director of China Merchants Life Insurance Company Ltd. and Bank of China. Professor Jiang was named National Leading Talent in Accounting by China Ministry of Finance (2012); consecutively from 2014 to 2021, he was an Elsevier Chinese Most Cited Researcher. Professor Jiang received his B.A. in Economics from the Guanghua School of Management, PKU, M.A. in Accounting from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of California, Berkeley.

Lin Wanchuan

Lin Wanchuan is a Professor of Economics at Guanghua. She received her Ph.D. from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in year 2007. Her research interests include Labour Economics and Health Economics. Currently, she is interested in social determinants of child health, and in the relationship between socioeconomic status and health.

There are two strands of her research. The current focuses on the determinants of health for low-income children. One strand of her research focuses on the extent to which insults to health and activity limitations are responsible for poor health for children in low-income families. Second, she also investigates the effects of expanding public health insurance eligibility for older children. Her recent work in Journal of Health Economics find some evidence that Medicaid eligibility in early childhood has positive effects on future health. This may indicate that adequate medical care early on puts children on a better health trajectory, resulting in better health as they grow.

Lu Jiangyong

Lu Jiangyong is a Professor of Strategic Management at Guanghua. Professor Lu is Chang-Jiang (Cheung Kong) Scholar Professor, and winner of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars. Professor Lu’s current research interests include entrepreneurship, innovation, venture capital, and international business, with a focus of emerging economies. He has published more than 50 papers in SSCI indexed academic journals, including Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and Journal of International Economics. He has also published 30 papers in leading Chinese academic journals, more than ten books, including best sellers such as Co-evolution Strategy, and Co-existence of Crisis and Opportunities.

Wang Hansheng

Professor Wang Hansheng is now head of Department of Business Statistics and Econometrics in Guanghua. He graduated in 1998 from the department of mathematics, Peking university and received bachelor’s degree in statistics. In 2001, he achieved his Ph.D. in statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Now he is a member of International Statistical Institute, American Statistical Association, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, Royal Statistical Society and International Chinese Statistical Association.

He has published more than fifty English papers and near twenty Chinese papers so far. He has a monograph in consociation with others and individually accomplished a Chinese textbook. He has played the role of associate professor of many academic journals which include: The Annals of Statistics, Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, Statistics and its Interface and Journal of the American Statistical Association. His research interest focuses on Ultra-high dimensional data analysis, Regression shrinkage and selection, Sufficient dimension reduction as well as Nonparametric and semi-parametric models. He once published Sample size calculation in ClinicalResearch and Applied Business Statistical Analysis.

Wang Hui

Wang Hui is a professor and associate dean at Guanghua. He received his PhD from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology majored in organizational management. His research interests focus on the leadership behaviour in the Chinese context, organizational culture, and performance management. His articles have appeared on the journals including Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Process, The Leadership Quarterly, Management and Organization Review, Journal of World Business, etc. He is also on the editorial board of Journal of World BusinessandActa Psychologica Sinica. Currently, his research is mainly on the Chinese traditional culture and its application into the management practices. His book of Dialectical leadership behaviour: An exploration on an indigenous leadership theory and practice rooted in Chinese culture was just published by Peking University Press.

Zhou Changhui

Zhou Changhui is a Professor of Organization and Strategy at Guanghua. His current research interests include traditional Chinese culture and management thinking, institutional transition and SOEs reform, and a behavioural theory of strategy. He has published papers in management journals including Strategic Management Journal,Journal of International Business Studies, Asia-pacific Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, and Management World. He is a co-author of the textbook Strategic Management:Global Vision and Local Attention(China Market Press, 2007). His manuscript In the Name of Strategy is forthcoming. Professor Zhou received his Ph.D. in management from University of Western Ontario. He joined Peking University in 2002 and became a full professor in 2010.

Zhou Li-an

Zhou Li-An is a Professor of Applied Economics at Guanghua. Dr. Zhou received his BA and MA in economics from Peking University, and his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University. He joined Guanghua as an Assistant Professor in 2002 and became a full Professor in 2010. His research interests include political economy, industrial organization, economic development, and Chinese economy. Dr. Zhou has published papers in economics and management journals including American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Public Economics, Economic Journal, Journal of Health Economics, and Strategic Management Journal. He is also the author of the book Incentives and Governance: China's Local Governments (Cengage Learning, 2010).
