Professor Li Yining's "Cultural Economics" Named as 2020 Best Reference Title in Social Sciences

Recently, Cultural Economics, written by Professor Li Yining, Honorary Dean of Guanghua School of Management, stood out from 7,000 new books in the world to be awarded as the Best Reference Title under the category of social sciences in 2020.

Taylor & Francis Annual Outstanding Book and Digital Product Awards

This award was conferred by Taylor & Francis Publishing Group, one of the world's leading publishers of academic journals, books, e-books, and reference books with rich publishing experience of more than 200 years. In 2018, Taylor & Francis first announced its annual Outstanding Book and Digital Product Awards, which aimed to recognize well-written and high-quality contents produced in the year. The panel of judges span the globe from Australia, China, Singapore, Canada, India, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Each year, shortlisted titles are carefully reviewed in each category. This year, “Cultural Economics” was named as the Best Reference Title in Social Sciences in 2020.

Book Description

Culture is a priceless inheritance and source of wellbeing that is of immense value to humankind. Cultural economics set out to examine the nature and social benefits of cultural products and phenomena as they exist in the market.

This volume is the masterpiece of Li Yining, one of the best-known Chinese economists, active in devoting his attention to the role of culture in the economy since the 1950s. Considering the importance of culture in the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the author combines cultural history, economic history, and the history of economic thought to produce unique perspectives. This book not only introduces the central concepts of cultural economics and the culture industry but proposes several groundbreaking views that greatly influenced the culture policies of China, including cultural adjustment, cultural confidence, and cultural checks and balances.

Researchers and students of economics, cultural studies, and Chinese politics, as well as policy makers, will benefit from this volume.

Professor Li Yining

Li Yining is the Honorary Dean of Guanghua School of Management and Professor of Economics at Peking University. His research involves relating the study of economic history to that of cultural history, and the study of economics to that of culture. His publications include History of the Ancient Greek EconomyHistory of the Roman-Byzantine Economy, and The Origin of Capitalism: A Comparative Study of Economic History.

厉以宁教授,汉族,中共党员、民盟盟员,1930年11月出生,江苏仪征人,北京大学光华管理学院名誉院长、北京大学文科资深教授,曾任民盟中央副主席,第七届、八届、九届全国人大常委,第十届、十一届、十二届全国政协常委。他是我国最早提出股份制改革理论的学者之一,参与推动我国国有企业产权制度改革,主持起草证券法和证券投资基金法,参与推动出台非公经济36条以及非公经济新36条,对我国经济改革发展产生了重要影响。另外,在国有林权制度改革、国有农垦经济体制改革以及低碳经济发展等方面作出了突出贡献。荣获教育部第六届及第七届高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖(人文社会科学)一等奖。2018年12月18日,在庆祝改革开放40周年大会上,被授予“改革先锋称号”。
