PKU Guanghua Lianghui Review Forum: Four Ambassadors’ Eye on Greater Cooperation with China

Ambassadors from Pakistan, Argentina, Belarus and Nepal gathered for the “Lianghui Review Forum: 2018 China Economic Outlook” held by the Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management in Beijing on the 21st of March. The ambassadors gave speeches at the event's panel discussion with the theme;“New Opportunities in Multilateral Communication”,with a special focus on the lately concluded annual meetings of the National People’s Congress and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Masood Khalid,Pakistan’s ambassador to China, said his country has been paying close attention to the Two Sessions.

At the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China of last October, the country set a new era of its development, and era with a series of new goals and benchmarks.

China is the second largest economy in the world, and any topic on China will attract the attention from within itself and from the world.

Elaborating on bilateral cooperation, he said China and Pakistan have been promoting interconnectivity by developing an economical expressway across the Himalaya.

Being a trade partner of many countries, China is both a destination and a source of foreign investment.

The market in Pakistan has not been greatly tapped, so it has great potential, the diplomat said.

When it comes to the development of Western China, he noted, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, and the whole country can benefit from western trade.

Green products such as cherries and commodities are top on the list of potential exports of Pakistan to China.

Diega Ramiro Guelar, Argentina’s ambassador to China, said the most important message sent by the Two Sessions is one of change and integration.

As China marks the 40th anniversary of its reform and opening up, the diplomat said the country has experienced a very positive development.

The particularly remarkable growth in the past five years is good news for the whole world, adding that the country is becoming increasingly influential.

The envoy noted that 2016 was his first year as ambassador to China, that year China made a successful chairmanship rotation by hosting the Group 20 Summit.

Argentina is very glad to take over the chairmanship this year.

Since 2016, the world has entered a new stage of integration, in which the foundation is laid for the next step of stronger cooperation.

He noted that soon the population of middle class in China will reach 400 million, and in the near future it will reach 500 million citizens.

This means that China has become one of the most important development engines of the world economy, this is very important for the majority of Chinese citizens, as well as to the rest of the world, he added.

Speaking on two-way cooperation, he said Argentina is facing a huge change and transformation, Argentineans want to increase the added value of their products.

Many of the country's products, including soybeans, are exported to China, and it is Argentina’s goal to attract Chinese citizens to also buy more Argentinean goods in supermarkets.

Argentina’s private enterprises will build a hub in Shanghai despite a 20,000 kilometer distance.

The country hopes to be able to use the ogistics center at the Shanghai Free Trade Zone to ship products closer to consumers.

In this way, e-commerce could be fully tapped, and as a matter of fact Argentina has already signed an agreement with Alibaba for a special exhibition area online for its products.

The diplomat talking about one of his country’s signature product - shrimp, said that it is in great demand and has even sold out at times, as many Chinese at Shanghai's free trade zone love eating the shrimp; a good start!

Rudy Kiryl, Belarus’s ambassador to China said the most important thing in the past 20 days is the Two Sessions, especially the changes in the country’s political architecture.

He noted the progress made in anti-corruption as supervisory commissions have been set up to monitor this issue.

What also caught his eyes is the establishment of the Financial Stability Commission, the merger of the Insurance Regulatory Commission and the China Banking Regulatory Commission, leaving the country's Securities Regulatory Commission as an independent organ.

This is a very important step for the financial market, he said, adding that the Two Sessions are highly pragmatic and consistent with the country's development.

Belarus is an old friend of China, and it has always supported President Xi Jinping, and has congratulated him on his achievements.

Speaking on cooperation with China, the diplomat noted business opportunities, as the Chinese people are enjoying better living standards and their tastes are changing.

This is a great opportunity for Belarus to boost its exports of green products such as meat and dairy goods.

Belarus is now also attracting foreign investment to its China Industrial Park, which already hosts 20 businesses.

The companies present notably cover high-tech industries, such as unmanned driving and robot manufacturers, showing a great demand for innovative products and technologies.

Leela Mani Paudyal,Nepal's ambassador to China, said that that he is keen on how the Two Sessions will further shape China's economy and its goals.

China's economy is not only important to China, but also to the world as well, he said.

China is the largest source of foreign direct investments for Nepal, and is also the country's second largest trade partner, thus China's economy will have a huge impact the nation.

Healthy growth in China is very important, especially to for a stable and high quality economic growth worldwide the diplomat said.

Through synergies both countries can reap benefits, as the development of China will greatly boost the development of Nepal.

China's “Two Centennial Goals” are to help the 1.3 billion Chinese people achieve their dreams, prosperity and stability. Prosperity and stability are very important, and he added that he will always pay close attention relevant policies.

Speaking of bilateral cooperation, the ambassador said Nepal is very optimistic, especially with China's direct investments strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Through the development and investment in China’s western region, prosperity and stability will be promoted to benefit the peoples in areas such as connectivity, he said.

This will improve the stability of the local peoples and the surrounding regions, including the whole of South Asia.

Nepal looks forward to a greater development of human contact and deep communication, starting from the grass-root level, he added.
