#Meet Our "Future Leaders"# is a featured series on stories of PKU Guanghua "Future Leaders" International Undergraduate Program students. It aims to introduce students in the program coming from PKU and our partner schools around the world to a wider community and share their experiences and thoughts before and after studying at PKU.

Today, we will introduce one of our “Future Leaders” program students, Vincent Hug--a young Spanish man who has developed varied interests and has kept on exploring various industries throughout the search for his life goal.

About Vincent Hug

He is a Spanish, Swiss, Canadian young man with an eclectic profile in everything from film & television production, to consulting, and entrepreneurship. He enjoys socializing with people and has strong family and friendship values. Out of all his hobbies, Vincent enjoys skiing the most, and one of his favorite moments is skiing down the mountains and feeling in tune with nature and himself.

I am proud of having established a film production brand called Estudios Metrópoli with two friends who are equally passionate about film & television.We’re all very proud of ourselves for taking the leap into producing our first short film, especially when we successfully utilized crowdfunding to finance a cast of professional actors and rent professional camera, lighting, and sound equipment. I remember when we finished an 11-hour shooting at the end of the day, we were all completely exhausted, but the accomplishments that we have made has turned our exhaustion into true happiness. The whole adventure of producing and shooting this first short film was an exciting and enriching experience in which we gained extremely valuable knowledge, skills, and confidence as filmmakers.

The whole idea of creating the brand came from our vision of making movies together—we had already done small audiovisual projects individually, so why not make them all under one brand? After we settled on the idea, we immediately started designing the logos and creating the various social media accounts to start making our brand a reality.In the long run, our final goal is to make our brand into an actual production company and revolutionize the Spanish Film Industry.People always say the first step is the hardest, and it’s true-- we were indeed faced with obstacles in the beginning such as the actual creation of our brand and gaining the funds for our first short film. However, as our endeavor progresses, things are becoming much smoother—we now feel that the sky is the limit!

Explore the charm of art, sports, consulting, finance, and entrepreneurship

I love spending my time in arts, socializing, and sports activities. To expand my knowledge on film and television, I watch movies on a regular basis, which has greatly helped me appreciate art from various countries and cultures. In addition to films, I also spend a lot of time listening to music and exploring new songs since I love a wide range of genres from 60’s and 70’s classic rock, to classical/soundtrack music, to jazz and many more! I try to express this passion by playing violin and practicing when I have time. As for socializing, I love making plans with my friends for fun events, and my happiest memories are Christmases with my family. Finally, my love for sports activities has emerged since I started skiing as a two-year-old boy. Most recently, I have engaged in competitive fencing and swimming, where I can replenish myself with health and energy.

My curious character has led me to explore multiple industries from which I have learned a lot and believe it will also be a guiding light toward my future.Besides my love for the entertainment industry, I have experience in consulting and strive to improve day by day. I started my journey as an aspiring consultant by joining the Consulting Club and getting accepted two consecutive semesters into IE University’s 180 Degrees Consulting branch. My first case-solving experience with the Consulting Club showed me the addictive puzzle-like challenges that companies faced every day, and I have continued ever since until becoming a semifinalist at IE’s Consulting Cup.

I have also been focusing on finance recently, learning how to trade and gaining knowledge and certificates in various financial areas.This led me to entrepreneurship, understanding the finance behind it – venture capital – and currently working on two student startups besides my movie production brand.Innergy U, the first startup, recently reached the semifinals at IE’s Venture Lab competition, pitching our idea – a SaaS personal growth platform for universities to offer to their students – in front of judges and investors. The other startup is in its prototype stage, aiming to build a networking platform specifically for media creators and artists to connect with employers and with each other to find crew talent with the objective of working together on projects.

Feelinga sense of belonging in the program

With my interest in business and the overall geopolitical environment, I have been very curious about China prior to the program. After my involvement at PKU, not only did I grow academically and first-handedly experience this country, but I could also anticipate participating in the professional world in China.Besides the advantage of being connected to the world’s most rapidly rising superpower, I was attracted to the cultural exchange behind the program, which involves learning the Chinese language and mingling with the Chinese way of life and mindset.The opportunity to experience this by the hand of a cohort of international and likeminded students was a golden ticket to a unique story.

So far, the quality of the teaching, the support from the university and the program, and the amazing people I have met have all constituted the impressive and inspiring aspects of the program. In the little time we have spent in the Future Leaders Program, I have gained so much knowledge on China, its culture, and its political and economic structure, including China’s financial regulation framework, the influence ofguanxiin business relations, differences between Western and Chinese economic history, and much more!The professors transmit their expertise in an inspiring way, and the program provides support on our academic and professional experience, as well as genuine caring for our wellbeing and feeling of belonging.For example, our periodic program virtual-meetups present various themes intended to help us on topics such as employability or mental health and have included fun icebreakers and sections highlighting member’s birthdays – all with the objective of making us feel more connected and happier despite the distance. Although I have not met any of the program students or advisors in person yet, I feel that an unbreakable bond has already been formed among us, and I can’t wait for our eventual reunion!

PKU Guanghua “Future Leaders” Program

Partnering with 15 of the world's best business schools, the Guanghua School of Management has founded the"Future Leaders" International Undergraduate Double-Degree Program that gives students the opportunity to gain an understanding of their local markets while also immersing them in one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic economies in the world: China. This program will focus on admitting top students with outstanding leadership potential from Peking University and its partner institutions. After completing their first two years of study at the institution in their home country, students will live and study together with classmates of diverse backgrounds from all over the world, including students from China, for two more years as a single cohort at Peking University.
